Are you a ready to break free and transition from a corporate career to your own business supporting mums?

Running your own business is rewarding, but it requires careful planning and strategic steps to make sure that it’s a successful transition and that you don’t wear yourself out in the process.

If you’re ready to take the leap, here are five empowering steps to help you plan and implement your exit from that hard fought for but no longer fulfilling corporate career:

Identify Your Passion and Niche:
Before venturing into the world of entrepreneurship, take the time to reflect on your passions, skills, and the needs of fellow mums. What aspect of motherhood ignites your soul? Whether it’s providing breastfeeding support, designing baby products, or offering the compassionate space of a Mother Circles, identifying your niche will set you on the path to building a business that truly resonates with you. This makes it easier to keep going when things get busy and aren’t as simple as you hoped.

Develop a Solid Business Plan:
When juggling entrepreneurship with motherhood, a well-thought-out business plan serves as your roadmap to success. Outline your business goals, target market, marketing strategies, and financial projections. Consider how you can differentiate your services to cater specifically to the unique needs of mums and set yourself apart from competitors. Yes, you’re 100% passionate about this but passion alone does not pay the bills. There are lots of template business plans online you can follow and free business advice might be available to you through your bank or in local networking groups. Build a Support Network:
As a mum-turned-entrepreneur, balancing the demands of motherhood and business ownership is challenging. Surround yourself with a supportive network of fellow mums, mentors, and business professionals who can offer guidance, encouragement, and valuable insights. Join online communities, networking groups, and attend local events to connect with like-minded individuals who understand the journey you’re embarking on. There are lots of women only business networks. I’m a member of three close to me and the support I get from these is essential to my own wellbeing and the success of my business.

Leverage Your Corporate Skills:
Your experience in the corporate world has equipped you with a valuable set of skills that are transferable to your new venture. Whether it’s project management, marketing expertise, or financial acumen, leverage these skills to propel your business forward. Embrace your ability to strategise, problem-solve, and lead with confidence as you navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship. Don’t underestimate the skills you have and how transferrable they are. A great business planning task is to create a list of your skill set. This is a helpful reminder that you have what it takes to go from a corporate career to your own business supporting mums.

Embrace Flexibility and Self-Care:
As a mum and an entrepreneur, finding balance between work and family is key to your overall wellbeing and success. Embrace the flexibility that comes with owning your own business, allowing you to prioritise both your professional and personal responsibilities. Remember to practice self-care, set boundaries – really clear boundaries, such as which days you want to work and switch off your work phone when you’re with your family, and delegate tasks when you can to prevent burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

By following these five empowering steps, you’re well on your way to transitioning from a corporate career to owning a successful business supporting mums.

Remember, everything that feels impossible starts with one step. I hope there is a step in here that feels possible for you. I wish you the greatest of success as we need amazing women like you in the world supporting other mums.
